Past to The Present

Do you remember the council house?
On the cobbled street?
Hand me down clothes,
Worn shoes on your feet?

Mice in the hall,
Carpets covered in grime.
This was my life, would it
Lead to Crime?

Do you remember the days,
Messing around at school?
Scruffy uniform,
Acting the fool.

One year to the next
Was very much the same.
I was told to concentrate,
Start playing the game!

I sat down and studied
But the classes were hard.
I couldn't wait till break,
To have a smoke in the yard.

Do you remember exams?
I was scared I'd fail.
Leave school to steal,
End up in jail.

But I did quite well and
Have worked since leaving.
All because I had faith,
And started believing.

Do you remember my past?
I was stuck in a rut.
Now the future is bright,
The shoes on the other foot!
